Police Scotland have launched a hit-and-run investigation following a fatal four-vehicle collision on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport.

A search is underway for two women and a man who fled the scene on foot after the incident on Monday morning, with police deploying a helicopter and a specialist dog unit to trace them.

The 58-year-old driver of a grey Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.

Officers were called out at around 09:25 to reports of the crash, which took place between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts at approximately 09:20.

Four cars were involved in total: the grey Hyundai i30, a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, and a grey Skoda Karoq.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent a substantial medical team, dispatching three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit, and a critical care paramedic. Four other people were taken to hospital for treatment and were later released.

Inspector Thomas Mallinson said: "My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time. Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and it is vital we trace the three people who left the area before police arrived."

The A8 was closed for several hours while collision investigators worked at the scene, reopening at 19:05.
