BBC Radio 2 presenter Trevor Nelson has revealed he underwent surgery for a brain tumour after stepping away from his radio show.
The broadcaster shared the personal update in a message posted to Instagram, explaining to listeners the reason behind his recent absence from the airwaves. According to Trevor, the tumour was discovered unexpectedly while he was simply carrying on with his normal everyday life.
That sudden discovery understandably came as a massive shock. Trevor admitted that the news left him stunned, prompting him to step away from his BBC Radio 2 show and stop work immediately so he could address the situation.
Following the diagnosis, the presenter was given various treatment options by doctors. Several weeks after those medical consultations, he went into hospital to undergo what he described as "a very serious surgery."
In welcome news for his audience, Trevor confirmed that the procedure went incredibly well. Since coming through the operation, he has been focusing entirely on his recuperation at home.
Over the past month, Trevor has been resting, recovering, and receiving post-operative treatment as part of his ongoing care. That dedicated period of recuperation has clearly paid off, with the presenter feeling substantially better.
Speaking about his condition and his desire to return to broadcasting, Trevor said: "I feel great right now. I feel ready to come back. I feel energised, I feel almost back to myself."
While Trevor has started stepping back into his usual routine—including playing golf and heading to the gym—he has not yet returned to his radio show or his DJ work.
Trevor also took time in his update to express sincere gratitude to everyone who had reached out to him. He thanked his listeners and supporters for their messages and positive thoughts during what he described as a "very serious situation" over the summer months.
We do not yet have a confirmed date for his first broadcast back on Radio 2, but Trevor is clearly feeling energised and looking forward to returning to the studio soon. I'll be following this one.
