A person has died following a fatal stabbing inside Brent Civic Centre in Wembley on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the building in north-west London, which houses Brent Council's headquarters and Wembley Library, at around twenty-five past two.

The London Ambulance Service mounted a swift response to the reports of violence at the civic centre in the HA9 postcode area. They dispatched an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer, and London's Air Ambulance to the location.

Emergency medical teams treated the victim at the scene, but despite the best efforts of all the crews involved, the person could not be saved. A London Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.

The attack took place inside a public civic building during opening hours, meaning several people were present in the immediate vicinity. Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt confirmed that council staff, local residents, and visitors directly witnessed the fatal incident.

Speaking about the impact on the local community, Mr Butt said: "Today, Brent has been shaken by an appalling and deeply tragic incident at the civic centre, in which a person has lost their life. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victim, their family and loved ones, as well as the staff, residents and visitors who witnessed what happened."

Mr Butt also commended the council staff who found themselves dealing with the emergency inside their workplace. He noted that the team had displayed "professionalism, compassion and calm" while responding under the "most difficult of circumstances."

Following the attack, the civic centre was evacuated, and access to the building was closed. A notice published on the local authority's website confirmed that the Brent Civic Centre and Wembley Library are currently closed due to the ongoing incident, with the council asking the public to avoid visiting the building.

The site will remain closed until further notice as the emergency response continues. Mr Butt urged members of the public to stay away from the immediate area in Wembley, asking people to avoid the location so that police and emergency services can carry out their work.

An active investigation is now under way, led by the Metropolitan Police, with council officials working closely alongside officers. In his statement, Mr Butt made a specific appeal regarding online commentary, urging people: "There is an active police investigation under way – please do not speculate or repeat any unverified claims online."
