Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a four-year-old boy was killed in a collision between an off-road motorbike and a car in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police said the crash happened on Churchill Drive shortly before 6pm on Sunday. The four-year-old boy was travelling as a passenger on an off-road bike when it struck a car.

The rider of the bike, a 24-year-old man, sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital, where he was placed under arrest. On Monday, following further inquiries, officers arrested a second man, aged 32, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Investigators said the bike carrying the child had been travelling in a convoy alongside a second off-road motorbike. The rider of that second bike left the scene before emergency services and police arrived.

The boy's family are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

Detective Inspector Jamie Moore said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time. They are being supported by specialist family liaison officers and kept informed about the investigation. As we learn to understand exactly what happened, I'd urge anyone who can assist with information or footage to contact police without delay."

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Churchill Drive area around the time of the crash to review any dashcam, CCTV, doorbell camera, or mobile phone footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 449 of 30 August 2026, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
