Police searching for missing 25-year-old Eilidh Bell in Campbeltown have found the body of a woman.

Officers made the discovery on Monday, August 31, in an area near Kilkerran Road in the town. While formal identification has not yet taken place, Police Scotland confirmed that Eilidh’s family has been notified, and relatives have requested privacy.

Eilidh had been missing since the early hours of Friday, August 28. She was last seen at around 1am on Meadowburn Place in Campbeltown and was reported missing from her home on Sunday after failing to get in touch with family or friends.

Following that report, Police Scotland launched a major search operation. The force issued a public appeal alongside a physical description, noting that her disappearance was out of character and that concerns for her welfare were growing rapidly.

Before Monday’s discovery, her family had made direct appeals online for help in locating her. Her mother, Jenny Bell, posted a message on Facebook setting out their growing concern.

"We are really worried about her and have been to the police to report her missing... we just want to know she is ok," Jenny Bell wrote. "It is very out of character for Eilidh not to be in touch with any of her friends or family."

Her aunt, Laura McEwan, also shared a public appeal on social media urging people to keep looking. She described Eilidh as "a friend to so many in so many places" who was deeply loved by her family, adding that she "would never have missed her wee sister's birthday."

Following the police announcement on Monday, loved ones and local residents began posting tributes online. Morgan Irwin wrote: "A sunshine in human form the most beautiful girl inside out. Sending so much love to Jenny, Eilidh's family and all those close to her! A sad day." Linda Robertson shared: "RIP Eilidh, a beautiful girl who was always smiling," while Rhiannan Brown posted: "So sad, such a beautiful girl taken too soon! Rest easy Eilidh, childhood memories to cherish forever." Keira Mehigan added: "Absolutely devastated, she was the best girl! Sending my love to all her family."

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the development in an official statement: "On Monday, 31 August, 2026, the body of a woman was found in an area near Kilkerran Road. Formal identification has not yet taken place, however the family of Eilidh Bell, who was previously reported missing, is aware. They have asked for their privacy to be respected. The death is being treated as unexplained but enquiries are ongoing. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."

What we do not know yet is how Eilidh died. Investigators are continuing their enquiries on the ground, and the formal cause of death will depend on medical and forensic examinations carried out as part of that process.
