Four people have suffered stab injuries during a late-night function at a hotel in Essex, with three men arrested in connection with the incident.

Essex Police were called to The Farm Cottage Hotel on Stifford Clays Road, Grays, shortly before midnight following reports that several people had been stabbed. The venue, which features a wedding marquee, is an isolated, budget-priced hotel situated between Orsett and North Stifford.

Around 100 people were attending an event at the hotel when the violence broke out. Officers arrived at the scene and found four people with stab wounds, though police have not yet confirmed the severity of their injuries.

Three suspects were detained by officers and remain in police custody as inquiries continue.

Two men from Hackney, aged 24 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. A 21-year-old man from Enfield was arrested on suspicion of GBH without intent.

Detectives are now working to piece together exactly how the incident unfolded inside the venue and are asking anyone who was there to come forward.

A force spokesman said: “If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.”

What we do not know yet is the condition of the four people injured, or what sparked the altercation in a room filled with around a hundred guests. Police have not released details regarding the nature of the function or whether the individuals involved were known to one another.

Investigators are particularly keen to review any video recorded by attendees, passing motorists, or nearby security cameras.
