Edgware Road Tube station has been shut and the surrounding area cordoned off as police respond to an ongoing incident in central London.

Access to the London Underground station, which sits on the Bakerloo Line, was closed off after officers flooded the scene, bringing local traffic and pedestrian access to a halt.

Transport for London confirmed the closure to passengers on its website, advising: "This station is closed while police respond to an incident. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses."

If you are trying to travel through this part of London, the disruption spreads well beyond the ticket barriers. Roads around both entrances to Edgware Road station have been shut down while emergency crews remain in place.

According to traffic data on Google Maps, Edgware Road itself—which runs directly in front of the Bakerloo Line side of the Tube station—has been closed from the junction with Bell Street through to the junction with Harrow Road.

Cabbell Street, the road immediately outside the station, has also been blocked off entirely, running from Harrow Road at the top down to Chapel Street at the bottom.

Videos shared on social media platform X show a substantial emergency presence deployed around the perimeter. Multiple police vehicles have parked up outside the station entrances, with officers establishing a wide cordon to keep the public safely back from the scene.

Social media reports and video from the scene also show firefighters and ambulance crews in attendance, with closures focused around a bridge structure and the nearby road junction.

For those needing the Bakerloo Line while Edgware Road remains inaccessible, there are several alternative options within walking distance. You can reach Marylebone station on foot in around six minutes, walk to Paddington in seven minutes, or make your way to Baker Street in roughly 11 minutes.

What we do not know yet are the precise details of what triggered the emergency response. The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for formal comment, and official confirmation on the circumstances has not yet been released.

Until officers complete their work and the cordons are cleared, the station will stay closed and local diversions will remain in force across the surrounding street network.
