A 26-year-old British man from Manchester has died after being shot multiple times at a residential property in the United States.

Jamie Thomas Stephen Lomas was killed following an incident in the city of Kent, Washington, roughly 17 miles outside Seattle. Emergency services were alerted just after midday on 22 August when King County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to reports of a domestic disturbance on the 23000 block of 156 Ave SE.

Deputies arrived at the Lake Youngs residence at around 12:20pm and secured the scene. A subsequent report from the King County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Mr Lomas died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Major crimes detectives from the King County Sheriff's Office have launched an investigation into the killing. A spokesman for the force confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage and the inquiry remains active.

Following the news, Mr Lomas's family set up an online appeal to help bring his remains back to the UK. Organised by his aunt, Sharon Day, and his cousin, Rhiannon Brown, the GoFundMe campaign has raised more than £6,000 towards repatriation and funeral expenses.

In a statement on the fundraising page, his relatives paid tribute to the 26-year-old, writing: "Jamie was only 26 years old. He was a loving family man, deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He had so much life ahead of him, and we just cannot believe that we are having to say goodbye to him."

The family said the tragedy came after they had already been left heartbroken by the recent death of their grandfather. They explained that the financial burden of transporting Mr Lomas home from America was more than they could manage without public support.

"Right now, all we want is to bring Jamie home to Manchester, where he belongs so that we can lay him to rest and give him the goodbye he deserves, surrounded by his family and loved ones," the appeal continued. His aunt and cousin added: "There are no words to describe the pain our family is feeling right now."

The UK government has stepped in to assist the family during the process. A Foreign Office spokesman told the Daily Mail: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in the USA and are in contact with local authorities."

What we do not know yet is the motive behind the shooting or the exact sequence of events that unfolded before officers arrived at the scene. US law enforcement has not named any suspects or detailed who was present at the property when the disturbance was reported.
