Two teenage boys taken to hospital following a stabbing near the Heaton Park Metrolink stop in Prestwich have suffered injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening, police have confirmed.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance and multiple road units, were called to Whittaker Lane at around 5.40pm on Tuesday evening. Crews attended near the Royal Oak pub, where paramedics treated the two victims before they were transported to hospital.

The incident led to widespread disruption, with Greater Manchester Police cordoning off Whittaker Lane to traffic and pedestrians and closing the Heaton Park tram stop in both directions from around 6.30pm.

While authorities had initially not confirmed the severity of the boys' conditions, police have now stated that their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made so far, and officers are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to contact Greater Manchester Police as their enquiries continue.
