A three-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after reportedly falling from a first-floor window at a property in Rochdale.
Emergency services were called out to Spotland Tops, situated in the Cutgate area of the Greater Manchester town, shortly after 4.15pm on Saturday.
First responders, including police officers and road paramedics, quickly attended the residential estate to provide emergency care.
An air ambulance was also deployed to the scene and was spotted by local residents landing nearby to assist the ground crews.
Details gathered by our sister publication, the Manchester Evening News, indicate that the three-year-old fell from a window located on the first floor of the address.
The injured child was transferred to hospital for urgent medical attention, where he remains in what authorities describe as a critical state.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the emergency response in an official statement detailing the timeline of the call-out.
A force spokesperson said: "We were called today (22 August 2026) at around 4.16pm to reports [of] concern [for] the welfare of a child on Spotland Tops, Rochdale."
The spokesperson continued: "Emergency services attended and the child was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition. Enquiries into the full circumstances around this incident are ongoing."
What we don't know yet are the specific events that led up to the fall, or whether any additional safety factors were involved inside the property.
Police investigators are continuing their work on Spotland Tops to piece together exactly what happened, and no further details about the child's identity have been made public at this time.
I'll be following this one closely as Greater Manchester Police progress their enquiries — check back for updates as soon as more information is confirmed.
