Two children and a woman have been taken to hospital after being injured on a fairground ride in South Yorkshire on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called out to Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham after the incident unfolded, leading operators to shut the event down early for the night.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that three people were hurt on the ride: two children aged 11 and 13, and a 21-year-old woman. All three required hospital treatment following the incident.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it attended the fair at around 18:50 BST on Friday. A significant response was sent to the scene, including two ambulances and three rapid response vehicles.

Following initial medical care at the site, the ambulance service confirmed that the two injured children were transported directly to Sheffield Children's Hospital.

To manage the crowds and allow attendees to leave the area safely, police closed Blyth Lane between Muglet Lane and Victoria Road. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the road has since reopened to traffic.

The fairground site was closed for the rest of Friday evening while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the incident.
