Six men have been jailed for their roles in the fatal ambush and stabbing of 21-year-old Dale Martin on a Derby street.

The sentencing took place on Thursday following the killing, which happened on Stenson Road on June 15, 2025. One man was handed a life sentence for murder, while five others were convicted of manslaughter.

The court heard that Dale Martin was travelling in a Renault Megane when a group riding electric bikes formed a barricade to block his path. He was dragged from his vehicle and attacked with swords, machetes, and Rambo knives.

According to evidence heard in court, the masked attackers surrounded Mr Martin and struck at his head, chest, and back after he fell to the ground trying to get away. The gang shouted "kill him, kill him" before leaving him fatally injured at the scene.

Investigators established that the killing followed a "tit for tat" dispute between rival groups, with CCTV capturing the group tracking Mr Martin down beforehand and fleeing on their bikes afterwards.

At Thursday's hearing, Judge Gregory Dickinson KC sentenced 26-year-old Jayden Mannion-Roberts to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 27 years for murder. Five other men, all from Derby, were sentenced for manslaughter.

Among them, 23-year-old Ki Grant-Finlayson received an 18-year jail sentence with a three-year extended licence on release for playing what the court identified as a "leading role". Shaylon McCalla, 27, of Copes Way, was also given 18 years with a three-year extended licence, while 27-year-old Keenan Hamblett received 17 and a half years.

Judge Dickinson KC handed sentences to two other men described as "enthusiastic participants" in the violence: Kayin Holmes, 25, was sentenced to 15 years, and 19-year-old Kelci Thompson was given 10 years to be served in a young offenders institution.

Footage from police body-worn cameras captured the subsequent arrests of the group across several locations, including two men detained at home in their underwear and two others apprehended at Gatwick Airport.

Detective Sergeant Chris Wright, of Derbyshire Police, addressed the case after sentencing, stating that Mr Martin lost his life in what he described as a "brutal, sustained and planned attack."

"They set out that night, armed with knives and with the intent to kill Dale - with those words 'kill him, kill him' shouted at the scene of the murder," Detective Sergeant Wright said. "His family now know who is responsible for his death and, while nothing will take away the trauma of losing a son, brother, and friend in such a way, they will now see those responsible face the consequences of their actions."

The detective also thanked Mr Martin's family for their conduct and support throughout the trial. With the court proceedings now concluded, the six men begin their respective custodial sentences, and I'll keep you updated if any further details emerge.
