Staffordshire Police have launched an investigation after a child died on land near Strawberry Lane in Cheslyn Hay on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 08:45 BST following initial reports of a child in cardiac arrest in the woodland area.

An air ambulance was dispatched alongside ground emergency crews in response to the call. Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced the child dead at the scene a short time later.

Staffordshire Police have confirmed that detectives are currently treating the child's death as unexplained while they work to establish exactly what happened.

The force has not released key details about the incident, including the child's age or gender, and no further personal information has been officially confirmed at this stage.

To facilitate the investigation, officers closed roads in the immediate vicinity around Strawberry Lane throughout the day on Saturday.

Police confirmed that officers were scheduled to remain at the scene into Saturday evening to maintain the area and carry out detailed inquiries.

The incident prompted a response from local representatives, including Robert Duncan, the district councillor for Cheslyn Hay, who addressed the situation in a statement shared on social media.

"I know how deeply upsetting news like this is for our community," Councillor Duncan said, speaking directly to local residents.

Duncan explained that he would share further updates as soon as he received "full and confirmed details" from official channels.

He also asked local people to "avoid speculation and allow the family and responders the privacy and respect they deserve" while the emergency services carry out their work.
