A six-year-old boy has died following a collision involving a vehicle in Llanfairfechan, Conwy county, North Wales Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 17:00 BST on Thursday evening after reports reached officers regarding a collision involving a vehicle and a child.
North Wales Police stated that the six-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene following the arrival of emergency personnel.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to a statement issued by the investigating force.
The boy's family is currently being supported by specially trained family liaison officers following the fatal collision.
To allow emergency services to respond and carry out their initial work, multiple roads were closed across the immediate area.
These closures centred around the area of Pen-Y-Bryn Road and Bryn Road, with police issuing a notice asking motorists and local residents to avoid the area entirely during the operation.
North Wales Police have confirmed that an investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the crash is now ongoing.
What we do not know yet are the specific circumstances leading up to the collision, the type of vehicle involved, or the precise offences for which the 39-year-old man has been arrested, as investigators have not made those details public.
In the meantime, officers are appealing directly to the public for assistance and have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with the police.
I'll be following this one closely as the investigation proceeds and more information is formally released — check back for updates.
