A body has been found in the Scottish Highlands during the search for Hector Patemore, a 45-year-old tourist from Belgium who went missing while out on a mountain walk.

Police Scotland confirmed that officers received a report of a body discovered in the Cuillin area of Skye at around 2pm on Monday afternoon.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but police said that the family of Mr Patemore, who had been reported missing from the area, have been made aware of the discovery.

Mr Patemore, who is an experienced hillwalker, had planned an excursion to climb Sgurr Na Banachdich, with a planned descent coming down via Coire Na Banachdich in the Cuillin Mountains.

He was last seen at 10.45am on Sunday morning leaving the youth hostel in Glen Brittle, Torrin, to begin his planned route across the mountains.

When he failed to return to his accommodation or make contact with his family later that evening, he was officially reported missing to police at around 10.25pm.

Prior to Monday's discovery, Police Scotland had launched an urgent appeal for help from the public. Sergeant David Mockett noted the missing man's background in the outdoors, stating: "Hector is an experienced hillwalker, and the route he planned to take is considered relatively straightforward."

Sergeant Mockett added at the time: "We are growing increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and are appealing for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to please get in touch. We are particularly keen to speak with any fellow hillwalkers who were in the area on Sunday, 13 September, and may have seen Hector or know anything which could help pinpoint his location and route."

Police have confirmed that the death is not believed to be suspicious. Following standard Scottish legal procedure, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
